As the world watches in shock at Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it can be hard not to see parallels between Ukraine's situation and that of Tawain. Both are targets of their much larger and powerful neighbors, both have been shunned by international organizations (NATO in Ukraine's case, the UN in Taiwan's case), and both face uncertain futures as their very sovereignty is up in the air. In this episode of China Unscripted, we talk about what western democracies need to do to support Taiwan so it doesn't meet the same fate as Ukraine, what would be next after China invades Taiwan, and what China is likely to learn from Russia's invasion tactics. Joining us in this episode is Guermantes Lailari, a retired U.S. Air Force Foreign Area Officer who specialized in counterterrorism, the Middle East, and Europe, and now is conducting research at the National Chengchi University in Taipei as a Taiwan fellow.
